W-STEM involved in the XI European Conference on Gender Equality in Higher Education

XI European Conference on Gender Equality in Higher Education (https://upm.genderequalityconference2020.com) was organized by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Ministry of Universities, in collaboration with the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the support of the European Network on Gender Equality in Higher Education and other Spanish stakeholders. The conference was held online during September 15-17, 2021.

W-STEM was part of the “Symposium: Gender approaches in fostering scientific-technical vocations, especially in STEM fields”. The session was organized by Milagros Sáinz from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and head of the Gender and ICT research group.

The participants of the symposium were:
  1. Merging Arts and Science education: potentials and challenges to encourage girls’ engagement in STEM. María Heras (Internet Interdisciplinary Institute, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Spain) and Isabel Ruiz-Mallen (Internet Interdisciplinary Institute, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Spain).
  2. Europe and Latin America: working together to engage women into STEM. Alicia García Holgado (GRIAL Research Group, University of Salamanca, Spain).
  3. The impact of a role model intervention. Ruth Mateos de Cabo (Universidad CEU), Susana González Pérez (Universidad CEU) and Milagros Sáinz (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Spain).
  4. Interventions conducted to increase girls’ interest in STEM disciplines: similarities and differences. Milagros Sáinz (Internet Interdisciplinary Institute, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Spain) and Inspiring girls’ aspirations in STEM.
