On Thursday, March 5, UTB participated in the First Meeting of Turbaneras women “for the rights of women and an egalitarian future” within the framework of the commemoration of International Women’s Day. The meeting took place at the House of Culture of Turbana, Bolívar. The event was organized by Ms. Levys del Rosario Escobar, the teacher who heads the women’s collective at the Marcos Fidel Suárez Educational Institution. There were around 40 secondary students, mostly women, several teachers and the principal of the institution in attendance.
A talk was offered by the coordinator of the Ondas Bolívar program Cristina Osorio, the director of the Biomedical Engineering program Sonia Contreras, the pedagogical assistant of Ondas Bolívar Andrea Escobar and Laura Duarte. They encouraged young women to get interested in science and technology, presented the W-STEM project invited the students to participate in a programming course that will be offered at the end of March.
